In their jobs, home inspectors see all different kinds of pests that get into homes and apartments which are bothersome. Even Calgary residents have to find ways to deal with these pesky pests. Before you rush off to by all the pest killers you can find, first try talking to a professional. Even a home inspector could give you some hints on things you can do to keep these pests at length.
Pests range from the nearly invisible to the extremely visible, and all of them pose dangers to both the house and the people living in the house. Flies, dust mites, mice, ants, fleas, roaches, spiders, wasps, and termites are just a few of the countless invaders people have issues with. However, there are some things that you can do that will prevent some of these pests getting in your home.
Starting with the outside of your home repair and remove any bridges, gaps, change lights, and get rid of all other openings. Plants and mulch are areas of great insect activity. Keep tree branches and plants from touching your home. Instead of using mulch in the areas in contact with your foundation use rock or stone. Repair tears in screens, warped doors, replace worn or torn weather-stripping, and loose mortar. Seal holes and cracks in siding, pipes, behind chimneys, and other openings with silicone or silicone-latex caulk. Turn outside lights out, and keep blinds shut so that indoor lights don’t leak out. Also reduce any moisture areas around the house such as leaking pipes. Home inspections often turn up a lot of problem areas that people tend to overlook.

Next move indoors to remove pest temptations, and pest entrances. Caulk moldings, baseboards, pipes, plumbing, and other holes around the house. Keep food in storage containers or inside the fridge whenever possible. Finally, as a precaution put traps in areas not accessible by your pets. Even in Calgary squirrels and other outdoor animals find a way into the home.
